Meeting Notice – August 13, 2011

This is an interactive meeting notice.

What, you may ask, is an interactive meeting notice?

As the phrase suggests, it is a meeting notice what requires interaction by the readers. For example: we need to have topics for presentation at the meeting; we need presenters; we need volunteers to provide lunch; we need to know who is coming to the meeting so the quantity of lunch portions may be determined, and so on.

This post will be updated as interactions (comments) are appended.

  2. I think it’s time to start plans for the upcoming contest season. What contests do we want to concentrate on? How are we going to prepare for the world record RTTY quest from KP4 land?

  3. I plan to attend. I can do a 10 minute (or less) “show and tell” on a stealth/Field Day/DXpedition 20/40 antenna Part I. Part I will consist of showing the antenna in its “collapsed” state for ease of carrying plus dialogue on how it was used this past Field Day. Part II will be for a future meeting (@ the W1XX QTH) in its operational state where a couple demonstration QSOs could be made. BTW please change the meeting date stripe in the upper right of the home page. Trust we are all working ST0R and VK9HR on all the bands. 73!

  4. I will attend. I will bring lunch fixin’s.

Prior to the meeting I will consider Mike’s questions regarding the upcoming contest season and WPX RTTY record so I can offer suggestions.

  5. I am planning on attending the upcoming meeting in August.

The bus/RV multi-op station concept mentioned by W1XX has some merit…may have some additional info on this idea by the time we meet. Also have some thoughts regarding upcoming contest season operations.

Would be nice to get updates from members at the meeting regarding specific station equipment and antenna changes/upgrades planned, in progress and/or completed for the upcoming contest season…may provide additional motivation for some, and always nice to know info for the Group.

Big Congrats to Rick KI1G and Jim KS1J for winning this season’s CTRICG intra-club competition for the HP and LP categories, respectively. Those were some *huge* point totals you guys collected.

In perusing the issues of QST that I let pile up earlier this summer, I noticed how well we did in the RTTY Roundup. I can’t help but open up the topic on club size again. On page 75 of the July QST we were listed as a Medium Club with 6 logs. Yet under the Local Club category, there were at least two clubs that had six or more logs. I checked rules here
    http://www.arrl.org/general-rules-for-all-arrl-contests

and there are a few conditions we may not have met. Apparently the number of logs is not the only criteria seeing as there were about 14 club submissions with less than 10 entries.

This issue has raised its head in the past and maybe we might talk briefly about it at the next meeting.

Hey I also noticed that I won the NE MultiOperator, Low Power category and came in #2 in W/VE. Go figure!

  7. Sorry to see KS1J’s head got caught in a vise. I hope it doesn’t have any ill effects on his CW copying ability for the upcoming contest season. I also look forward to KA1BNO’s tower shadow puppets. I’ll be looking for mine while it goes from 0 degrees to 180. Can you also see the shadow antennas on the tower? Out!
