  1. Hi Guys!
Most of Saturday was a casual operation. I wasn’t sure if we could get two chairs filled but I kept the fingers crossed. The CG cadets had other activities and commitments. I enjoyed Ed, W1PN’s company Saturday and we did put in a few hours as Multi-2 with the remaining time as single op. I missed Pat. He would surely have had a blast. I did Sunday. Ten meters was hot most of the day so the contest for me turned into a 10M challenge. About 20 hours total operating time as shown by N1MM.

  2. Hi y’all:

A very minimal effort here… about 7 hours. Not all at one time either. I can only take Phone contesting in short bursts. :-).

  3. Hi Everyone

I had a good time in this one since conditions were spectacular. I could even get over the pole and into Asia and Pacific on 10 for the first time in “I can’t remember”. No 80 meters to speak of since antenna is set for CW portion of band and is too much of a pain to adjust. I regret that seeing as the A and K levels were at ZERO and conditions there were pretty good. Ten meters was unbelivable and open all most all day long to differenct areas.

I decided to give it a good effort and here are the results.

  4. Hi guys,

I just got back from class after driving home from NJ today. Awesome scores so far! Had a great time at my aunt’s 90th birthday party, even though it took us 7 1/2 hours to get there Saturday (it only took us 5 hours to get back today). I talked to my brother today and he said 10M was craaazzyyyy over the weekend! Sorry I missed it but I had a better time with family.

  5. Hello All — First off, **BIG THANKS** to club mbrs Donn KW2G, John W1XX, Ken K3IU and Pat (‘the tower climber’) NG1G for their great help in getting my 5-band Hex Beam and the supporting tower aloft (top of antenna @ 35′) and fully operational this past week…just in time for CQWW SSB! Great work guys.

While a significant improvement on 10m thru 20m over my wire antennas I knew my Hex Beam (with gain equivalent to just 2 ele-type beams) and it’s low height above ground was a compromise system that would not compete directly vs. the larger ‘big gun’ antennas and amps in capturing the long-haul DX. Nontheless, with limited time available, I was *very pleased* to work 100+ DX countries exclusively on 10m before mid-day Sunday in about 10 hours of S&P ‘point and click’ operating.

Propagation and activity on 28 Mhz during the contest was indeed amazing…if condx for ARRL 10M Contest in December even remotely approach this past weekend then that event should be a hoot! Count me in for the CTRI CG ‘activity push’ in that one.

I plan on a pretty strong effort in this coming weekend’s ARRL Sweepstakes CW…will make an attempt at a ‘clean sweep’ of all the sections now that I have the beam.

    Comments:

Amazing condx on 10m both days for the first time in many years. Incredible to
hear contest stations from 28.3 to above 29 MHz.

Completed installation of new Hex Beam at 33 ft on new tower just this past
week. Gave it a good work out…even with the expected fine propagation I had
no idea I could achieve DXCC before noon on Sunday with a modest effort! Very
    cool!!

All S&P with emphasis on ‘DXing’ for country mults vice rate, especially on Day
1…certainly could have put MANY more Eu stations in the log. Could NOT crack
the biggest pile-ups for rare Africans in Zones 34, 36, 37 and 39 as well as
for KH2/KH0’s in Zone 27 … maybe in a month during CQWW CW.

Log to be uploaded to LoTW soon. Thanks to all the DX for the fun on 10m!

    Comments:
I started out with the idea of operasting single band 80. After several hours, I decided to see if the antenna was working well on 160. So I did some Top Band for a while. When things got slow, I tried 40, since that is really my best band antenna-wise. Since this became a not-serious effort, I went to sleep relatively early. I figured 10 was going to be where everyone would be at, so mid-moring Saturday I went to 10. WOW! Unbelievable! Signals all the way up to 29.0 MHz with hardly a break anywhere. Ran EU for a couple of hours on 28.9…a never ending stream of callers. JAs were workable in the early evening. Stayed up most of Saturday night (after a 7 – 11 PM snooze) and worked 160, 80, and 40. Top Band condx to EU was spotty at best. Got back on 10 Sunday and ran again on 29.1…incredible! Have you ever heard stations up that high? I made just one S & P pass on 15 and 20 Sunday after noon…so only 1/2 hour total each on those bands. Couldn’t find a free frequecny even if I tried. Wall-to-wall signals….and I quit early to watch the Patriots (bad move!). Was pleased that 80 worked well and the 160 antenna is working very well (TNX to CTRI help!). 10 meters was, as everyone discovered, just fabulous. Only briefly heard CTRI’ers: K3IU, W1AN, W1CTN, K1FUG. I’m sure everyone else was somewhere in the rarified and expansive space of 10 meters during most of the contest. Your further comments on the “Operation 10 meters” proposal would be appreciated. 73!!

  7. Gang,
Even though we were in Hawaii, and having an amazing time, I missed you all, and apparently some good conditions. I would have loved to help out John and Ed @ W1AN. Ken, the multi-op station is a good way to tolerate the phone contest. Short bursts of operating with time to rag-chew with the other ops who are resting their ears!
I’ll be back in time for CW weekend, so let me know. We are presently nearing the equator (cross it in about 13 hours). We’ll be in Pago Pago on Thursday.
I’ll see you all when I return.

    Mike, K1DM

  8. Hi All,

Sounds like those who had a chance to get on had some fun. Conditions were amazing, 10 meter activity up to 29.150. Congrats on getting the antenna up Bill, you will find that as the sunspots continue to grow you will have lots of success to all parts of the world with it. Jim, great job, looks like you raised your USA record a bit higher.

I did not plan to operate, but when I turned on the rig Saturday morning and heard 10 meters I could not pass it up. First hour 244 QSO’s, one of my all time best rates from here. Goofed around a bit the rest of the weekend putting about 11 hours.

I will be out in KH2 in a couple of weeks and will try to get on the air from there, not sure what CQWW CW will bring yet.
