2012 CQWW SSB Contest Results

Please report your contest results by adding a comment to this posting. I expect that there will be some BIG scores out there. Conditions have been very good. Even I have made about 350 phone contact. That may be a personal best on phone for me.  😆

DON’T FORGET….

All entries must be sent WITHIN FIVE (5) DAYS after the end of the contest. November 2, 2012 for the SSB section and November 30, 2012 for the CW section.

  2. I wanted to do better than last year and just barely succeeded. I should have spent more time hunting for mults on Sunday but I got fixated on running on 10 meters, where there must be an endless supply of EU stations. I should have dropped to 15 earlier to get more mults there. (Last year I had 152 mults on 15. This year I had 124.) I kept thinking that I could make up the multipliers later in the day but it didn’t turn out that way.

I was bothered with some intermittent QRN but nothing major. Ovrall conditions were pretty good with some great openings into Asia on 10 and 15. My low band scores still suffer from no 160 antenna.

I had a great time. I didn’t hear any other club members. Now to rest up and get ready for the other contests this month.

  3. I only put in about 7.5 hours (according to N1MM Logger) which is about normal for me and a phone contest 🙂 . Only club members I heard was KS1J late Sunday afternoon trying to work a BY and W1WBB working a South American. Many of my Qs were at 100 Watts since my amp really complains about the SWR way up in the phone bands.

    Here are my results…

  4. Welcome to the CTRI contest group Fred. As always, a nice score Jim. Although I was hoping to get in on this contest, what I thought would take two days took four days to get my antenna on the air. I finally got it operational (almost) at about 3PM Sunday. I still have problems with the rotor, but at least the SteppIR is working properly.

  5. I spent much of the weekend getting ready for Sandy but was able to put in about 5 hours, mostly all S&P. The 15M stack worked well. It pretty much stayed on EU. I did switch around from the KT36XA and the CL33 several times to see what performed best on 15. The stack was the best overall performer on 15.

Still without utility power. My fingers are crossed that we’ll be back up tonight.

See you all in the upcoming SS CW test.

  6. Had some fun in limited time, working mostly Sunday…all on 15m as last year’s effort I worked only on the 10m band. Tried running a bit Sunday afternoon with my 100 watts — only *one* CQ answered (Tnx EA8!) in limited calling on a still very packed band.

Great sigs late Sunday to JA…close to a dozen JAs worked, mostly 1st call. Only mults heard/not worked were some SE Asia very late when sigs were weak and the ZD8/Zone 36 mess.

Jim KS1J was heard numerous times while I waited in line for the DX and he got through 1st call!

Now on to ARRL Sweeps…the RI mult should keep me running this weekend (and maybe add a few dB to my sigs as K1DM likes to say!).

    Comments:

With solar flux/sunspots having dropped quite a bit since last week and limited
time available thought I’d try 15m(A) single band effort. Very few contacts
made on Day 1 due to other conflicts and hurricane Sandy preps.

Put some time in Day 2 mostly pointing beam at Eu. Good sustained signals with
packed 15m band. All S&P as well as P&C (Point & Click!) at times. Found a few
good mults in between the spots… ie. Z6, SV5 and CT3. Unable to generate any
runs via CQ on Sunday with my small beam at low height and 100w.
