This coming weekend on the RTTY Radio

For those who don’t want to fight the QRN on 160-CW this weekend, there are two RTTY contests.  The TARA RTTY Melee starts at 0000Z 01 December (that’s Friday evening) and runs through 2359 01 December.  Then starting at 0000Z on 02 December (Saturday evening) through 2359 is the 10-meter RTTY contest.  In both contests the exchange is RST and STATE, so you should be able to roll from one to the other, or you can pick your favorite 24-hour run.  This will be the last chance this year to work out some more bugs in your operating process.  I don’t know how busy these contests will be, but the 10-meter test should give you a chance to collect some additional countries and states.

  1. Barring any real world issues, I’m planning to dabble in both.

The only other RTTY test I see coming up before Feb’s WPX is ARRL RTTY RoundUp Jan 7.

  2. I have to work that weekend, however, when I get out, if Bill will still be up, maybe I’ll go to his house and do the 10m RTTY.

  3. With regard to the ARRL RTTY Round-Up, as a club we are planning on a big effort. I’d like us to actually put two stations together as M-2 each with K3’s etc to give us a chance to practice the entire set-up, networking, etc, and then operating. There should be plenty of activity, and it will be a good warm-up for February.

  4. If conditions tomorrow are not a lot better than right now, 10 meter RTTY is gonna be very boring. I hear no signals on 10… anyplace between 28000 up through the birdie at 28123. The TARA contest is going on right now and I would expect to hear some signals on 10 if it were open.

  5. I just finished the TARA RTTY. Didn’t make a single 10m Q. Saw only 2 10m spots with nobody at home when I went there. The 10m test could be a bust. Will try for a while at the start and I’ll check off and on Sunday, but not expecting a lot.

  6. It is 8 minutes before the contest officially starts and I hear nothing but noise on 10 meters. I’ll wait a while and then call it a night. I saw your call sign on my screen a couple of times this afternoon, Jim, but don’t think I ever actually heard you.
