  1. For any number of reasons I didn’t put in a big effort this year. First time in quite a few years that I didn’t make a clean sweep. Total BIC time was a bit over 7 hours. No Qs on 80 and only one on 10 (Az)mid afternoon on Sunday. Heard and worked W1WBB and W1XX(with his new K3s) from our gang. 73, Ken K3IU

Comments: Used the SS to break in the new K3S radio…and get the operator over the steep learning curve for the radio. I haven’t done SS QRP since 2011 when I made 700+ Qs…so thought that QRP would be a less demanding approach. Overall mission accomplished. Most satisfying was the CLEAN SWEEP…looks like only one other on 3830 QRP scores. Picked up WYO, NE, and NH in the last hour or so of operating. TNX to Gerry, W1VE operating VY1AAA remote, bagged this one late Sunday after not breaking the pileup on Saturday. S & P’d primarily on Saturday when the bands were saturated, and was able to “run” most of Sunday even with QRP. Lotsa fun! Worked K1DM and K3IU…and speaking of Ken, he was my FB mentor on the K3S getting ready for the SS. Let’s keep posting our scores even though the club championship matrix listing is on hiatus. It will keep us all energized. 73! — John, W1XX

  3. Hi All – Thanks to Ken for my RI mult! K1VSJ in Prov. called me quite late on Sunday for a 2nd. Somehow missed ‘XX, even if he was just flea power this time. I was the 83rd mult/Clean Sweep station for at least two ops, so we were indeed fairly rare this year from RI. Way down on mults (missed six — see below) for me as I ran, ran, ran. No other club members heard. Always a fun event, guys. Now we need someone to get our club’s ARRL Club Competion roster eligibility list updated/uploaded ASAP based on the recently revised ARRL rules so our scores can count for CTRI CG! 73, Bill W1WBB

    Comments:

Operated only Sunday after sunrise, a bit in the morn, much more in afternoon and evening with breaks. Almost exclusively a CQing effort until after 2130Z when I called a lonely NP3 while I was searching for a clear CQ frequency on 20m. Found VE4 shortly thereafter, and VY1 a bit later with no callers. Most of my needed mults would likely be worked on 20m so stayed there…got AK and WY just before 2300Z. SD, VI and DE were found later on 40m. Little S&P seemed to hurt my mult count…missed NE, KH6, EWA, UT, VE5 and VE6.

Perennial RI ‘Big Gun’ W1XX went QRP this weekend so contacts with the Ocean State were a bit harder to come by…part of the fun, and challenge! Glad to contribute a few more RI CW QSOs from here, along with K3IU, K1VSJ, and NB1U (as well as W1HI)…

  4. Congrats on the QRP Sweep ‘XX. That’s ‘wicked hard from around heah’ Well done!! We should all try QRP together one year in this one…the pile-ups for us would be huuuuuge! ‘WBB
